Netherlands Consulate General in Shanghai, China

The full loaded Netherlands HTV “Blue Marlin” departed from Port of Nantong safely to Rotterdam

Loaded with two pontoons, on which 29 inland transport barges are stacked, the world largest semi-submersible Heavy Transport Vessel Blue Marlin owned by Dockwise departed from Langshan anchorage of Nantong Port at 9:00 am on 23 January 2012. Guided by the river and sea pilots, Blue Marlin was heading to the open sea through the Northern Channel of Yangtze Fairway at the estuary. Another Dutch company VEKA, the owner of those barges is waiting for the arrival of its cargo at Rotterdam 45/50 days after departure.

In view of the scope and the technical sophistication of the loading operation and the inland navigation management, this project could be rated as the record of Nantong Port. It’s also a success of Sino-Dutch cooperation on both government and industries.

The initial operational execution plan proposed by Dockwise and VEKA was rejected by Nantong MSA for two major concerns, the insufficient draught in low water period and the serious affection to the channel from Nantong to Baoshan due to the 75m wide with both sides overhanging when Blue Marlin sailing. After learning the companies’ situation, the Consulate General in Shanghai started coordinating with Nantong government for support. Through the CG’s close communication and deep explanation, Dockwise has obtained Nantong MSA’s approval and great assistance during the whole procedure of the operation.
